I have a 16yr old and we will be moving in the summer. I am not sure where you are looking but the best high schools that i have found in the Lithonia, Stone Mountain area are Martin Luther King and Stephenson. I hope this helps.

The best school district on the south side of Atlanta is in the Fayette County School District.
Specifically Starrs Mill and McIntosh high schools.
Cities are Fayetteville, Peachtree City and Tyrone.

Where are the "best" schools in metro Atlanta? Some agents will tell you the area where they live, or the school they like.
What you need is empirical information. Check out these links. The first will give you data on the public schools.
http://www.psk12.com/rating/index.php
The second will give you data on teh private schools.

When we moved our family here 16 years ago we had the same concern. After extensive research we settled on the East Cobb area northwest of Atlanta. The zip codes we found to have the best of schools were 30062, 30068, and 30067. The Pope HS, Walton HS, and Lassiter HS areas are the best based on our experience. All 3 of our children have advanced degrees and were very successful in college due to the preparation they received in this area. You can call or email me with any other questions you might have. There are other fine schools in other areas and a lot will be determined by your commute to work as well. Please contact me anytime at 770 656 5467 or email dennis.hammond@metrobrokers.com. Thank you and best of luck to you and your family! If you send your address I will send along a magazine on schools.

There are a number of areas that have very good schools. The Roswell High School district is very good, as this area also has very good elementary & middle schools. The city of Roswell is located in North Fulton. Other areas that have good schools are Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Marietta East Cobb, Stone Mountain, & Dunwoody. Once you determine the area of Atlanta you want to live, then you can really investigate the schools, test scores and etc to make the best decision for your family. I would be more than happy to help, so please feel free to contact me at 678-557-0203 or charlette.hunter@metrobrokers.com.
