Good evening,
Thank you for your post. I would suggest that you drive around the neighborhoods to see first hand. Once you find some of interest, contact the local police department to ask for a report. The report will provide you with information to help guide you as to how safe the neighborhood is. As Realtor's we are not able to provide you with that information.
Wishing you the best with your relo.

Hi Mickelle26,
There are a few ways you can find this information. For one thing, you can look up crime information on each ZipRealty MLS listing. To do so, navigate to a listing and click the tab 'Local Info' - scroll down the page a little and you can see the 'Crime' section for a summary of crime in that area relative to the national average.
Additionally, you could check out www.crimereports.com which provides an easy to use interface for checking reported incidents.
Thanks for visiting the community,
Colin

East side of Evanston (near the lake) is nice, however, homes are pricey in this area and not as diverse . The town is pretty diverse and majority of the areas are safe. The area surrounding the high school can be a little rough at times. Anywhere east of Dodge is cool and try and stay a few blocks away from theEvanston/Chicago boarder (Howard st). Not too many areas in Evanston where you can go wrong. Hope this helps a bit.

I went to school in Evanston and work within a Police dept. nearby and can safely tell you that your best bet is to stay as far north of Evanston as possible. As you go south and closer to Chicago, crime gets worse.

Thanks for the response. It confirms my feelings about the neighborhoods I should be exploring.

East Evanston, near lake is nice but pricey. As you get closer to Howard St, gets lousy particularly between say California (Dodge on Evanston side) and Clark St (Chicago Ave in Evanston). Northwest Evanston is nice as you move towards the university but you run into the Northwestern events if you live near Central St but it is nice. There are pockets of nice and not so nice so you have to know what you want and what you are willing to deal with. Lots of high rise condos in and around downtown Evanston (pricey). I just returned to the area myself and I am renting first in the area I am considering purchasing a condo to see if it is where I really want to be. Good luck.
