I'm actually shopping for homes in the same are in the high desert. I'm looking more so in Hesperia, which is one exit before you get to Victorville. From what I know, the northern part of Victorville has nicer looking homes and has a more "master planned" feel to it, however the crime is higher there. The zip code is 92394, and mostly off Hook Blvd, which is the same street as Roy Rogers. The neighborhood names there are Brentwood, West Creek, and Las Haciendas.
The houses West of US 395, North of Bear Valley and South of Palmdale Rd are pretty nice as well. And if you live in that area you fall into the snowline school district which is more south where the custom homes are, and snowline is known for having the better school district in the Victor Valley area.
The east side over Victorville, which as a zip code of 92395 is my least favorite personally. Bear Valley gets really congested, and its a little bit more older homes. If you go more far in, eastward, there's a community called Spring Valley Lake, which is supposed to be the nicest part of Victorville. That are has more custom homes, no tracks.
Job wise there aren't many anchor job opprotunities. From what I know many people go down the hill to Rancho/Riverside for work.
Hope that helped!

(FYI.) I was born and raised in Hesperia. It has grown SO MUCH it makes my head spin!! Hesperia still is a quiet area and Victorville has way more crime than Hesperia. My recommendation is to stay out of Victorville, Apple Valley is good. It depends on kids, pets, etc. All of it plays a big part in where you move into around here!
