Looking to relocate from Chicago and was wondering what type of area Davenport is.

Davenport is kind of small.. slow paced, but in the middle of central florida. Not too far away from anything

How is the crime rate in Davenport?

As far as I know its not too bad. The place that has been high these days is lakeland. That being said...we do have a sheriff that is cracking down on all the nonsense.

I bought 3 homes in Davenport with the intent of relocating there from Connecticut when I retire.
One house for each child and one for us. Because of the recession there are MANY bargains available.
All of the homes I purchased were around $100,000 each BUT just 3 short years ago were selling from $225,000 to $250,000.
I can tell you that there is a sense of community in Davenport (lacking in CT) because most homes are in subdivisions with homeowner's associations and everyone is a stakeholder
I've done alot of research, it is a slow paced area but convenient to everything, including Disney, 5 hospitals within a 30 minute drive including one right in Davenport.
Homes from $40,000- $400,000. Restaurants, shopping malls (Posner Park), recreation
There are retirement communities there if that becomes a necessity. Because you're inland there is less damage potential from hurricanes.
Crime and taxes are both low despite what others may tell you.
The ONLY negative (and this is common in Florida) is a mediocre public school system.
If my kids decide to relocate and have a family of their own, we'll have to evaluate whether or not to use Charter or private schools

Its a neat area because the town is not too busy, but is close enough to the big cities that have all the tourist like areas. Let me know if I can do anything... oK?
peace,
julie

The best school (K-8th) is Four Corners Charter School. For the pass 4 years has been an A school.
